Jaime Ávila

The aesthetic creation of Ávila is a cardboard installation. It is in empty cardboard, as an antagonistic support of its own physical, neural, and mathematical heaviness, constituting the orthogonal involutive unit: cubic meter. With 10 thousand cubes, the artist assembled ten cubic meters, which refer to the density of the immeasurable population and the unplanned construction. With a precise look, it refers to a utopian and elemental measurement that condenses concepts of area and territorial volume and refers to the inaccuracy of the measured, and also to the immeasurability of geographical expansion, to the displaced population of the great cities of Latin America and to the paths of memory. In the exhibition is presented the cubic meter resulting from his research in Mexico City.

La creación estética de Ávila es una instalación de cartón. El cartón vacío, como soporte antagónico de su propia pesadez física, neural y matemática, constituye la unidad ortogonal involutiva: el metro cúbico. Con 10 mil cubos, el artista ensambló diez metros cúbicos, que hacen referencia a la densidad de la población inconmensurable y a las construcciones no planificadas. Con una mirada precisa, se refiere a una medida utópica y elemental que condensa conceptos de área y volumen territorial y se refiere a la inexactitud de lo medido, a lo inconmensurable de la expansión geográfica, a la población desplazada de las grandes ciudades de América Latina y asímismo a los senderos de la memoria. En la exposición presentamos el metro cúbico resultante de su trabajo de investigación sobre la ciudad de México.
