Born in Miami, Violet Forest is an artist and creative technologist. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art from Florida International University, where she was trained as a film photographer and experimental video artist. She later completed her Master of Fine Arts in the Art and Technology program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. During that time, her artistic practice involved creative work with technologies such as Processing, Unity, AI, Virtual Reality, OpenFrameworks, Arduino and DIY Electronics. She also collaborated with artists Gabriella Hileman and May Waver in the Cybertwee collective, a collective dedicated to exploring the intersections of femininities, feelings, and technology, with a focus on community, education, and digital privacy.

After completing her master’s studies, Forest began her career in front- end and Unity development as a freelancer for multiple studios and agencies in Chicago. During that time she became part of the Game
Art and Virtual Reality communities thriving in Berlin, Germany, and participated in festivals and institutions such as Transmediale and Center for Arts and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe.

Between 2018 and 2020 Forest resided in Berlin, working at the Volkswagen Future Center Europe as a UX Design Technologist doing prototyping for Level 1-5 self-driving vehicles. She collaborated with multidisciplinary teams on projects integrating Virtual and Augmented Reality, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and 3D. After finishing her time at Volkswagen, she was a research fellow for an open source prosthetics development project in Paris, developing a robotic hand movement mapping application. In 2021, she returned to the United States and joined the Crypto and NFT community.

Throughout her career as a creative technologist and developer, Violet Forest has maintained her artistic practice through participation in physical and virtual exhibitions, artist residencies and collaborative projects. Currently, she focuses on exploring new processes and techniques from emerging technologies, continuing the expansion of the Cybertwee aesthetic, and experimenting with Web/Net Art and AI Art, among other technologies. Currently, Violet Forest is working as a Technical Artist for Meta’s Horizon Worlds metaverse.
